Sample 1 - Summary of Lynda.com Video

I wrote this summary about print production after viewing a Lynda.com video on the topic.  This was an assignment within our writing and publishing course at Gateway.  The summary shows my ability to comprehend, write, edit, and deliver a well-thought-out piece to a specific audience.  This summary would inform and help anyone within the communications field that has printer needs for their products.

Sample 2 - Advertisement for Gateway Course

This advertisement was part of our writing for the media course.  It illustrates my ability to use creativity to create original advertisements via design, graphics and original script.  I used InDesign as my software, researched graphics, and used a right margin format for the text.  However, I kept the Administration Office information centered at the bottom to draw attention to it and use as an anchor.  I made use of a current saying in the media that everyone would be familiar with--"fake news" and correlated the idea towards becoming a journalist via Gateway's Technical Journalist Certificate.

Sample 3 - Feature Article for Publication

I wrote a  feature article for our writing for the media class geared toward all levels of writers.  This article illustrates my ability to brainstorm ideas, research, draft, write, edit, and deliver an informative article.  I used primary and secondary sources within the article and cited the sources appropriately.  I wrote the article using Word.

Sample 4 - Rhetorical Analysis Essay

I wrote this essay for our English composition course at Gateway.  We read a short story and wrote a rhetorical analysis, hoping to catch the essence of the story.  This essay shows my ability to be reflective in my writing, creative, and informative while properly citing references.  This essay was written using Word.

Sample  1- Flier Advertisement for Contest

I designed a flier for our writing for the media course.  I used left alignment with two columns under a photo I took during my digital photography course.  This sample showcases my ability to brainstorm original ideas, research appropriate graphics, and design an appealing flier. It also showcases a photo I took which works well as an example for the photography contest.

Sample 2 - Newsletter Design

I created this newsletter and layout during my course in communication document design.  This newsletter showcases my ability to create eye-pleasing newsletter design through color choice, graphics, and layout.  I chose green hues in my design due to the nature of the newsletter--Irish dance.  A pair of ghillies was added to the front page header to quickly bring attention to the focus of the newsletter.  A colorful photo of the back of a solo dress on the front page creates intrigue.   Additionally, this newsletter establishes my skill with InDesign.

Sample 3 - Form Design

I brainstormed and designed a form to gather information needed about the client and the project in order to write process documentation.  Creating this form was part of our research fundamentals course at Gateway.  This form shows that I am able to gather information about a process to develop a communication product. The information from this form would help the user write a plan as well as the communication product.  I used tables within Word to develop this form, adding color to ease the eye and bring importance to an area.

Sample 4 - Vector Illustration

During our illustration course at Gateway, I created a vector illustration using Adobe Illustrator.  For this assignment, I used a photograph I had taken for my digital photography class and used the photo as a background template for the vector illustration.  I became well-versed in drawing tools, layers, the pen tool, gradient, and various effects such as blur for the background and sponge for the ice.  This vector illustration shows that I can be creative, meticulous, detail-oriented, and focused.
