Sample 1 - Revision of Instruction Manual
This is a user guide which needed to be constructed into a technical manual for our technical writing course. I designed the manual to lead the user through a series of steps that helps to complete a task safely, efficiently, and correctly. This manual shows my ability to effectively create a useful manual by guiding the user step-by-step. Photos were incorporated, along with danger, warning, and caution symbols.
Sample 2 - Quick-Start User Guide
As part of our research fundamentals course, this is a quick start guide for ticketing and knowledge management software that service agents would use if the software was recently implemented. I developed this guide with audience objectives in mind, then researched the software, drafted the content, sketched a design, and developed the guide in Word. This guide shows my ability to analyze audience needs and client expectations. I used a one-page, column format with screenshots for ease of viewing and yellow highlighted headings for faster referencing.
Sample 3 - Letter of Intent
This is a letter of intent for our technical writing course. This letter intends to find potential grant funding for Mayte's Rescue. I researched Mayte's Rescue online and wrote an informative overview of the organization's goals and mission to bring about interest in their cause. Through online research, I was able to find a potential funding source that would support the organization's immediate goal.
Sample 4 - Grant Proposal
Using the Wisconsin Common Grant Application Form, I wrote a grant proposal for our grant writing course. I began by meeting with the Town of Delevan Parks and Recreation representatives to discuss their needs. Once the park's need was chosen, I used audience analysis, research methods, rhetorical strategies, and revision techniques to write the proposal for beach cleaning equipment for the Town's public beach. I explored government, private, and corporate funding sources to find funding for the equipment.
Sample 5 - Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
Created step-by-step instructions to help workers carry out routine operations when creating a quick start guide. This SOPs aims to achieve efficiency, quality output and uniformity of performance, while reducing miscommunication. Also included is a checklist created for the procedure.

Sample 1 - Comprehensive Edit for News Release
This is a comprehensive edit of a news release for publication in a business magazine. This was an assignment for our editing class at Gateway geared toward local audiences within the Racine, WI area. I reduced the length of the original release to fit the confines of a publishing magazine while maintaining the integrity of the original release. I made edits within Adobe Acrobat. This edit shows my attention to detail and ability to produce a comprehensive edit easily.
Sample 2 - Technical Document Edit
I produced this copy edit of a draft for a technical promotional document in Adobe Acrobat. The audience would be those who use the product such as engineers. I used appropriate commenting tools during my edit and corrected all errors. This assignment was for our editing class and shows my ability to edit technical documents with mechanical references.
